My book about Pope John Paul II and his vision of women and family has several references to the Loreto Sisters, the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Mary Ward. I wrote that "Mary Ward was an early proponent of socially active orders of uncloistered nuns free from the jurisdiction of male diocesan priests. She also believed that women were equal to men in intellect and should be educated accordingly."

Wojtyla's Women: How They Shaped the Life of Pope John Paul II and Changed the Catholic Church -- published in the U.K. by O-Books (June 2008).

I have only the fondest memories and heartfelt love and gratitude for the Loreto nuns. I attended the Loreto House school in Calcutta and those were some great times. The nuns love for the children and dedication is unparalleled

Hi Una, just wondering if you're the Una Coogan I served with in HMS Flying Fox all those years ago; if so you may be pleased to know I became a Roman Catholic here in Ottawa some years ago... Clive & Erika (& Charlotte and Ewan) Packer.

My daughter, Bethany, is in the inquiry stage of Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary. After looking at your site, I can see why she is attracted to Jesus and you. Pamela
