USA Ring of Fire: Keeping with the tradition of Mary Ward and her “Galloping Girls” some of our sisters have traveled to various parts of our country and the world in response to our charism of Integrity, Justice and Freedom. Whether it be protesting violence in its various forms or reaching out to the marginalized they bring to life the justice statements to which we have committed ourselves as IBVMs. Featured in this Ring of Fire are Frances McCarron, IBVM and her experience among the Navajo Indians; Judy Illig, IBVM and Gerrie Baskerville, IBVM Associate, and their participation in the Capital Punishment protests; Mary Gleason, IBVM and her particiation in the protest at the SOA (School of the Americas); and del Rey Waite, IBVM and her experience among the very poor in the Philippines. |

RoF USA: Capital Punishment Gerrie Baskerville, IBVM Associate, and Judy Illig, IBVM, were involved with activities preceding the execution of Stanley “Tookie” Williams at San Quentin Prison. This included a press conference held at Sacramento’s City Hall featuring speakers for various churches, synagogues and mosques throughout the city. |

My personal experience (Mary Gleason, IBVM) of marching for peace and justice to close the SOA/WHINSEC at Fort Benning, Georgia had finally happened. On November 18, 2005, I participated in the nineteenth annual protest to close this school. |

Joliet Diocese Medical Mission Trip: Philippine Islands Of the 7,000 Philippine Islands the Joliet Diocesan Mission, for the second year, has sent a fourteen member Medical Mission Team to the island of Eastern Samur, the Diocese of Barongan. The population of Eastern Samur is 374,225, 97% of whom are Catholics. The diocese includes 26 parishes ministered to by 60 priests. In many ways this diocese is really the Church of the poor, by the poor, for the poor. |
