We
pray for our Institute during our General Congregation
A General Congregations is a time to deepen
and strengthen our union of minds and hearts, to open ourselves to the ever-new
voice of the Spirit and to refresh our commitment and vision of Institute life
and mission towards our ultimate purpose, the greater glory of God. (Mary
Wright’s letter)
“Let us take care as long as we live first of
all to keep before our eyes God, and the nature of the Institute which we have
embraced and which so to speak is a pathway to God … according to the grace
that the Holy Spirit has given to us and according to the particular stage of
our vocation”. (Institutum I)
“Behold, I set before you an open door”. Our lives depend on stepping
forward, none other than God holds the door... Sharing in the mission of the Church: we,
members of the IBVM, commit ourselves to mobility for the sake of the reign of
God. We follow the inspiration of Mary Ward, a pilgrim, who exercise not only
extensive geographic mobility, but also mobility of imagination and enterprise.
(Cross-cultural hand book)
Mary Ward was filled with the love of God and
she sought to do the will of God and serve others in the situation she found
herself. We are called to do no less.
“Take no notice of his appearance or his
height: God does not see as humans beings see: they look at appearances but God
looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16,6-7)
Discernment is a process that helps us to look inward, as an individual
and as a group, to discover what God’s
will would be for the Institute now. Discernment could be called a sacrament, a
sacred meeting between God and our Institute members.
