House of Prayer January 2008 Print E-mail

jan_08.jpg‘I said to the man who stood at the

gate of the year: “Give me a light

that I may tread safely into the unknown.”

And he replied: “Go out into the

darkness and put your hand into

the hand of God.

That shall be to you better than light,

and safer than a known way.

May that almighty hand guide and

uphold us all”.’

We pray with the Church and the world

We pray that the Church may strengthen her unity as a community of love, to reflect the communion of the Holy Trinity.

In his World Day for Peace message on January 1st, Pope Benedict XVI called on world leaders to re-commit themselves to nuclear disarmament, encouraged an international law rooted in respect for the human person and said it is necessary to ensure more careful protection of creation.

We celebrate the centenary of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: 1908 – 2008. The theme this year is Pray without ceasing. (January 18 -25)

We pray with those of other faiths who celebrate their new year: Muharram – Islam (Jan 10) & Mahayana New Year - Buddhist (Jan 22).

We pray with the Institute

On our Institute Feast Day we pray together: “May it please God to give us grace to know the benefits of our calling and to continue in it to God’s great glory.” Mary Ward

We pray for all those who take holiday breaks at this time, for safety for all who travel and for communities everywhere as they gather to celebrate the Mary Ward Week of Prayer.(January 23 - 30)

On the Feast of the Epiphany let us ask that the very manifestation of God’s love and the radiance of God’s light will illuminate the path we take on our journey towards God. May we come to the dwelling place of heaven bearing the most precious gifts we possess: hearts transformed in God’s love, lives given over to justice and reconciliation and spirits cast in peace. (January 6)

One Small Voice

Gracious God,

in your gift of this New Year

may we create a dwelling place for you

in our works of love

and reconciliation.

May we give birth to you

in every word

of consolation and support

we speak,

in every joy we bring

into the lives of others .
