Elopement on RMS Titantic :

TitanicRMS Titanic, built at the Harland and Wolfe shipyard in Belfast Ireland, marketed as the largest and most luxurious liner of her time, undertook her first and only voyage in April 1912. The centenary of its tragic voyage will be marked in April 2012. Cobh, Co. Cork, then known as Queenstown, was her last stop, and the last passengers boarded here. The ship struck an iceberg on the night of April 14th 1912 and sank with the loss of over 1500 lives in the early hours of 15th April. Only 40 of the 123 passengers who boarded the ‘Titanic’ in Queenstown survived. One of those who boarded in Queenstown, was Mary Mullen, pupil of Loreto Abbey Rathfarnham.

TO ALL IBVM MEMBERS WORLDWIDE,

Celebrating the feast of the Institute 23rd – 30th January 2012

We hear certain opinions which disturb us from some people who say over and over that this modern age of ours, in comparison with past ages, is deteriorating. One would think from their attitude that history, that great teacher of life, had taught them nothing. We feel we must disagree with these prophets of doom, who are always forecasting worse disasters, as though the end of the world were at hand. Present indications are that the human family is on the threshold of a new era. We must
recognise here the hand of God, who is ever directing our efforts towards the fulfillment of the inscrutable designs of His providence…
From Opening Address John XXIII October 1962

One sees the danger of adverse things, but without fear, anxiety or trouble
and quiet confidence that God will do His will even in confusion.
Mary Ward in 1616
