WHO WE ARE
A great love of God, and desire to do good, an attitude of openness to all good works, a freedom to refer all to God, and a readiness to follow the way of justice and sincerity in lightness of spirit: this is the charism that Mary Ward desired to shine through all our words and works. (IBVM Constitution 1.11)
As IBVM/Loreto Sisters, we are women drawn to companionship in the service of the Gospel. Inspired by Mary Ward and the Ignatian spiritual tradition, we strive to support growth into freedom through spiritual ministries, education, and any other works which meet the needs of our times.
WHAT WE DO
Alert to the needs of our time and with Mary Ward’s breadth of vision, we serve in a wide variety of ministries. Around the world you will find us serving in schools, social service centers, agencies to stop trafficking in human persons, shelters for the abused and homeless, retreat and spiritual life centers, rural and urban parishes, as development workers, as prison chaplains, as home visitors, as spiritual caregivers for persons with HIV/AIDS, in advocacy and lobbying at the local/national levels and the United Nations, and wherever contemporary needs arise.
We are an international, multicultural Institute living and working in many different lands and cultures. Should you be traveling around the world, you will find us ministering on 5 continents in 22 countries. This global network of IBVM/Loreto Sisters is organized into nine provinces, one region and one community in Southern Africa. Our administrative center is at Casa Loreto in Rome, Italy. Read More
